Downlights

Shop LED downlights at RS Electrical Supplies. Recessed LED downlights are the most widely specified ceiling light fitting in UK domestic and commercial installations — providing clean, unobtrusive illumination that sits flush with the ceiling for a modern, uncluttered finish. We stock downlights from leading manufacturers including JCC Lighting and Luceco, covering fire-rated, non-fire-rated, fixed, and tiltable options across a range of sizes and colour temperatures.

Downlight Types Available

• Fire-rated downlights — intumescent-sealed fittings that maintain the fire integrity of a ceiling when installed through a floor/ceiling construction; required in most domestic installations under Building Regulations Part B
• Non-fire-rated downlights — for installations where fire integrity of the ceiling is not required, such as ground floor ceilings and commercial suspended ceilings with separate fire protection
• Fixed downlights — beam directed straight down; the standard choice for general ambient lighting
• Tiltable downlights — adjustable head allows the beam to be directed at an angle for accent or feature lighting
• Dimmable downlights — compatible with leading and trailing edge dimmer switches; check dimmer compatibility before purchasing
• IP65 rated downlights — sealed for use in bathrooms, wet rooms, and other Zone 1 and Zone 2 locations

Key Considerations When Choosing Downlights

• Fire rating — required in most domestic ceiling installations; check Building Regulations Part B requirements for your project
• Cut-out size — most standard downlights require a 70mm or 75mm cut-out; always check the product specification before cutting
• Colour temperature — 2700K–3000K warm white for living areas and bedrooms; 4000K cool white for kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial spaces
• IP rating — IP65 minimum for bathroom zones; IP20 suitable for dry locations
• Dimmability — confirm the downlight is dimmable and compatible with your existing dimmer switch before purchasing
